Winter travel is my favorite.

There’s something magical about exploring new places when they’re blanketed in snow or lit up for the holidays. Or, stepping off the plane into a warm, humid climate, after embarking in a frigid winterscape. Whether warm weather escape, or cold-weather embrace, winter travel cannot be beat, in my opinion.

So, where are my go-to winter spots?

First, Aspen, Colorado. It’s a winter wonderland for skiers and snowboarders. The après-ski scene is just as vibrant, with cozy lodges and hot chocolate that hits the spot.

Then there’s New York City during the holidays. The city transforms into a festive playground. Ice skating at Rockefeller Center, the Christmas tree lighting, and holiday window displays make it feel like you’re walking through a movie set.

For something a bit more laid-back, Lake Tahoe is a gem. Whether you’re hitting the slopes or just enjoying the snowy scenery, it’s a winter paradise. And the lake views? They’re stunning year-round but especially magical when frozen over.

Now, let’s talk about Quebec City, Canada. Yes, it’s not in the U.S., but it’s close enough and too charming to leave off the list. Cobblestone streets, French cuisine, and the annual Winter Carnival make it a fairy-tale setting.

For winter sun, Key West, Florida is my favorite. The Keys are a slice of the Caribbean in the U.S. Clear water, plenty of sun, sea, and sand to help you escape the winter blues.

Alaska’s Northern Lights are a bucket-list experience. Fairbanks offers one of the best chances to see this natural wonder. Just bundle up; it’s chilly up there!

For a European vibe without a transatlantic flight, Leavenworth, Washington is a hidden gem. This Bavarian-style village offers holiday festivities, skiing, and a whole lot of charm.

Speaking of European vibes, Stowe, Vermont is known as the “Ski Capital of the East.” It’s got a quaint, small-town feel with world-class skiing. Plus, the maple syrup is to die for.
